Israel Ride 2013

"After this, my first organized ride, the joy of riding has inspired me to become a lifelong biker and given me the ability to throw away a previous image of a sedentary old age."

Susan Patz, Baltimore Bicycle Club member

BBC Annual Meeting a Great Success

A record 166 members attended the Annual Awards Dinner and meeting. The Committee headed up by Jeffrey Marks (pictured) did a fantastic job. Thanks, Jeff. In addition to a terrific dinner provided by Bear Brothers Catering, the club elected a new board and gave out major awards. See program for names and details. Additional awards will be presented at the Spring Social on March 28.

We didn't know it, but our new President, Ed Cahill, is a legend among the Howard County General Hospital scene. Some of our members thought you might like to know a bit more about Ed.

Thanks, Ed, for picking up the baton.

Team BBC News

Baltimore Bicycle Club's racing team, Team BBC, has had an incredible year. Check out highlights in the Team BBC 2013 Year End Report.
For 2014, Team BBC's pink jersey will have a new design, refined colors, and a new manufacturer. View the new design on the Voler website. If you missed this year's order, team apparel will be available at Baltimore Bicycle Works in mid-March.

We Can't Get Enough Pizza!

Michael Newmeyer, owner of Michael's Pizza, 16952 York Road in Monkton, MD, is pictured with Bill W., George C., Gloria E., & Rich B.  On the January 13, 2014 Short Ride To Hereford, these four Baltimore Bicycle Club (BBC) riders thoroughly enjoyed a veggie pizza. Michael's Pizza is one of BBC's favorite bike ride pizza stops. Mike makes a delicious pizza. All calories consumed seemed to burn away as riders pedaled up and down hills back to Hunt Valley.

Mount Carmel Chicken Finally Discovered!

Two years ago I went on the Mt. Carmel-Westminster Loop ride and was told there was a chicken statue that could not possibly be missed. Well, I missed it and requested a repeat of the ride this season. The day was slightly damp and very cloudy, but the Chicken still stands on the side of a pond. In addition to seeing the Chicken, one of my sunglass lenses popped out, and I look a bit askew in this picture. I am not certain the Hoffman Mill Road hill was worth climbing just to see a chicken, but I am grateful to Cindy Wyatt for leading this ride, for my benefit.

CRABS Jerseys are Travelling Again!

Couples Riding a Bike Simultaneously (CRABS) rode from Havre de Grace, MD to Delta, PA. David and Brenda Jaffe, first time ride leaders, led the 50-mile ride with other CRABS tandem riders and some CRABS wannabes through bucolic Harford County, Susquehanna State Park, and some of Maryland's best horse and farm country. They crossed the border to Delta, PA and stopped for lunch. The ride was fairly hilly, but had spectacular views and quiet roads. David and Brenda are warming up for their 350-mile bike ride in Israel this fall. Pictured from left to right are David Jaffe, Greg Alexander, Julia Alexander, and Brenda Jaffe.

Civil War Century Volunteer Ride

Volunteers for the Civil War Century had a spectacular ride on Saturday, August 24. With the Civil War Century coming up in two weeks, some 40 volunteers tried their legs at the different routes (50, 62, and 100 miles) on a beautiful sunny day. The routes, all checked by Craig Martin, were flawless, the day was perfect, and the company was the best. Ride leaders were Bill Blankenship, Mary Menne, and Ed and Mary Jarcy. Check out pictures from the ride. We hope the weather will be just as good on September 7.
