Ouch!

Ouch!

So, there I was...feeling pretty good about myself since I got up and went out on a crisp fall morning for a ride on my sweet new road bike. But 9 miles into the ride I got pushed off the road by a driver who just couldn't wait 15 seconds for a truck towing a horse trailer to go by in the opposite direction. I was being far too considerate to the vehicles and riding too close to edge of the pavement. My front wheel got caught in the rut next to the newly paved blacktop and promptly dumped me in the road. I just missed the back end of the car that was passing me. I put my left hand down to break my fall and heard/felt a POP as I hit the pavement. After spending a day in the ER at Union Memorial it was diagnosed as a coronoid fracture with dislocation. That was Friday.
This week I saw the elbow guru - Dr. Eglseder at the University of Md. He decided that it's best to pursue without surgery since the coronoid bone is in place nicely. He said I will be a "one armed paper hanger" for the next 6 weeks.
This sucks. I had just started a training program to give me a good base for the spring. I'm out of work for the next 3 months. I'll be climbing on my spinning bike as soon as I'm able, but right now I can't even tie my own shoes!

Re: Ouch!

Totally sucks.  Did you get any kind of vehicle description and where did this happen.  BTW, when I hit that famous pot-hole 6-1/2 years ago and destroyed my clavicle, I used Dragon Naturally Speaking software to allow me to write emails and docs while incapacitated by speaking and the new version BLOWS away that older one.  I'm glad you didn't get run over when you fell.  Mean and stupid people suck.  Stuart

Re: Ouch!

I was riding eastbound on Benson Mill Rd between Yeoho and Cedar Grove. It happened so fast that I didn't get any vehicle discription - and since I didn't let actually hit me I'm sure it would be hard to charge them with anything. Big lesson learned!

You have got to be (bleepin') kidding.  Benson Mill Rd. in that stretch is just a little ~country lane!  Hope your paper-hanging days come to an end soon...

My sentiments exactly! It's not like I was riding a on a major thoroughfare. From now on I'll be one of those guys riding 3 feet into the lane.
