Classic ride from Front Royal, VA - first 30 miles are hilly heading southbound on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, then descends into Luray, climbs up over the Massanutten Ridge, and then a fast, flat return the last 30 miles through Fort Valley.  Rest stops at Elkwallow Wayside (mile 24), Luray (mile 41), and Fort Valley (~mile 60).  There is a $15 entrance fee for bicycles at Shenandoah National Park, but my season pass will allow 4 cyclists to enter.


mnferwerda Jeff - Since it will be in the mid 90s, you might want to consider the option of keeping the ride on the Skyline Drive to Skyland and then head back. Same distance but about 10% more climbing. It'll be much cooler on the ridge than in the valley. I'll be starting @ 8am. Maybe I'll see you all.

jeffblankman I do like the cooler weather on Skyline. I plan to do the out-and-back in June - that's a tough route going up to Skyland and then coming back up Hogback on the return! Fortunately, the forecast is slightly cooler for Front Royal tomorrow vs here in Baltimore.
