Spring into Shape: 2019 Annual Social welcomes Spring!
All club members who attended the Annual Spring Social—aptly titled “Spring into Shape,” enjoyed a terrific evening of great socializing, delicious food, and excellent speakers who talked about advocacy efforts for cyclists and others. The event ran smoothly from check-in through the meal, program, and dessert. Forgot to mention that John Isaacs (club treasurer) brought lots of commemorative, 50th anniversary kits (bike jerseys and shorts) and enjoyed brisk sales! Thank you, John.
We could go on about the delicious food and will—7 varieties of pizza from Pizza Boli’s, ultra fresh salad and homemade dressings from Eddie’s, and yummy carrot cake and yellow and chocolate cake from Graul’s—as well as a lineup of soft drinks plus beer and wine for all takers! The relaxed atmosphere and hominess of Ascension’s Great Hall made for just the right ambience for sharing cycling tales and more.
Our speakers, Nigel Samaroo, avid cyclist and BBC member since 2000, and Joshua Feldmark, Executive Director of Bike Maryland, thoroughly engaged the entire audience—you could hear a pin drop during their presentations. Nigel shared his moving, personal story of his 2017 bike accident and resulting serious injuries which led him into advocacy work with Bike Maryland. Joshua spoke eloquently about his organizations’ legislative efforts to make cyclists and other “vulnerable roadway users” more safe on MD roads. We thank them for their tireless work on our behalf and ask “what can we do to help?”
We all know these events don’t happen by chance. We –Gloria Epstein, Evie and Mike Reinsel- pooled our efforts once again to orchestrate a wonderful evening. We want to extend a big thank you to the volunteers who helped with set up/clean up, picking up food from vendors, registration, and all manner of maintaining the “food line” and serving. We so appreciate your help--Mary and Ed Jarcy, Gene Young, Cindy Wyatt, Ken Philhower, Marty and Mary Zimmel, Mary Ellen McLewee, Bev Feig, Walt and Carol Russell, Rich Burns, Andy and Joy Bauer.
These annual evening socials are a big hit with everyone, and we made it happen again this year. The committee appreciates your enthusiasm and hopes that you will continue to support events and rides throughout the year. The efforts you make and support you give to the club make all the difference.
The Committee for the Annual Club Social,
