2019 Instructional Ride Series

The 2019 Instructional Series successfully concluded with the hope of launching the biking future for approximately 30 individuals who each participated in up to seven group rides. The participants learned about bike handling skills, how to do minor road repairs, as well as about equipment and clothing.  Participants could choose between a short, medium, or a longer route at each group ride.  Early on, the short/medium/long rides were about 10/16/20  miles long.  Later in the series, the rides were extended to about 18/25/35 miles.  Ride locations started on the NCR and B&A/BWI trails then shifted to the roads near Greenspring Station, Jacksonville, and Sparrows Point/Ft. Howard.

The Greencastle Great Escape – Still Great!

In June we held our fifth annual Greencastle Great Escape, and I’m happy to report that it is...still great!  Especially this year.  Temperatures never got above 81, the humidity never above 50 percent, and – except for a bit of cloud cover Friday morning – the skies were mostly clear.  And, best of all, despite a forecast suggesting otherwise, there wasn’t so much as a hint of rain the entire weekend.

Spring into Shape:  2019 Annual Social welcomes Spring!

All club members who attended the Annual Spring Social—aptly titled “Spring into Shape,” enjoyed a terrific evening of great socializing, delicious food, and excellent speakers who talked about advocacy efforts for cyclists and others.  The event ran smoothly from check-in through the meal, program, and dessert.  Forgot to mention that John Isaacs (club treasurer) brought lots of commemorative, 50th anniversary kits (bike jerseys and shorts) and enjoyed brisk sales!  Thank you, John.

Club Membership in Ride with GPS

The BBC Executive Board is pleased to inform the membership that beginning in 2018 it had decided to provide a new benefit to Club members by purchasing a club subscription to “Ride with GPS” (RwGPS), a route mapping internet site. This was not a replacement to the current club's cue library, but rather an added benefit. Since then, RwGPS library has been greatly populated with many interesting cycling routes and its use has been enhanced and well utilized by our membership.

Many of you have probably been directed to this site as some of our ride leaders have been posting such links on club ride announcements. By subscribing as a Club to this innovative technology, we have gained a place to store as many routes as ride leaders wish to create and have all routes viewable and easily found on our club account.
