Ride to Rocks Park - 5/17/2012

Ride to Rocks Park - 5/17/2012

Five riders (Steve, Ed, Gary, Mike, and Mark) showed on a perfect weather day for a ride to Rocks Park.
We had full sun and a sight breeze of about 4 mph out of the NE which decreased slightly over the ride.
Our ride started with a climb of Duncan Hill where we were treated to a vast floral display of understory mountain laurel for the extent from the Duncan summit to Yeoho.  Worth the ride - Five Stars.
For you lovers of chicken sculpture, the BIG CHICKEN on Troyer is no longer there.
We took Holy Cross to Coen to Rocks Rd (Rt24) for a detour around the closed St Clair Bridge Rd bridge.  Holy Cross has a nice little (read:steep) climb which adds about 250 to the total ride climb.  Coen is a steep descent to a wood bridge and stop sign at Rocks Rd.   It is a easily doable detour adding about a mile.
We had a nice tail wind for the long uphill on Jarrettsville Rd to our break.  Break had Steve and Ed eating ice cream at the Jarrettsville Creamery, sitting outside at the cafe tables and generally enjoying the day.  Then full tilt return to ORR for an overall of a relaxed 16+ mph.

Hey Tuesday Riders, if weather holds fair for May 22nd, we are riding Rocks Slate & River starting from Carroll Manor Park at 9:00 am for 69 miles.  Come join the fun!
