Sunday Rides & Schedule for Memorial Ride and Ghost Bike Placement

Sunday Rides & Schedule for Memorial Ride and Ghost Bike Placement

There are THREE distinct things going on THIS SUNDAY to honor John & Lynne who were killed on their tandem. (a LOT of content below)
*1) A ride hosted by me for all folks, all clubs, all who want a nice fifty-something ride on the weekend.  See below
*2) That ride joins with a small 12 mile total ride from Chesapeake Beach for a mass of folks with police escort to place the Ghost Bike.
*3) Ghost Bike placement and memorial event.

#1 I'm leading a Baltimore Bike Club Ride TO and FROM the Ghost Bike Ceremony Ride for John Fauerby and Lynne Rosenbusch.  9:30am.
THIS BBC ride (welcome to co-list) is an All-Pace Ride leaving from Southern High School in Harwood, MD (4400 Solomons Island Rd, Harwood, MD 20776) at 9:30am for a pace of 15-17 mph. (Leave at 9am if you will be riding at 12-13). We will be routed counter-clockwise and will be eating lunch at the Market until AFTER the ceremony, figure at 1pm at best so bring something to eat to tide you over. The main group WILL stop at the Market for fellowship, decompression, deli sandwiches and hydration for the last 15 miles.

I expect that after lunch we will get back to the starting point in Harwood around 3-4pm so this will be an all day affair and 56 miles total. Starting temps will be cold (29 overnight) and 49 for a high but dress for 40's. Weather looks clear.

Here is the cue sheet for THIS ride which is TO the celebration ride start/stop point.http://ridewithgps.com/routes/11090657.tcx

Tandem Ghost Bike for John and Lynne

Ghost Bike Ceremony Ride for John Fauerby and Lynne Rosenbusch
It is with heavy hearts that we have joined with the Potomac Pedalers, Frederick Pedalers, Bike AAA, Oxon Hill, and others to organize a memorial ride and Ghost Bike Ceremony for John Fauerby and Lynne Rosenbusch.

John and Lynne were superstar cyclists - extraordinarily experienced and safety-conscious. Sadly, when they took their tandem out on Halloween, a driver decided to get behind the wheel while drunk.

On Sunday, November 22nd the bicycle community is joining together to honor them with a tandem ghost bike on Tobacco Road. Please join us for this solemn occasion.

The twelve-mile round trip ride will begin at Beach Elementary School (7900 Old Bayside Rd, Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732) at 11:00 AM. Riders should be at the school and ready to roll no latter than 11:00 AM. Parking is very limited, so please carpool or ride in.

Those who prefer a longer ride may opt to start earlier from other locations, such as Southern High School (Baltimore Bike Club leading ride), Chesapeake Market (Annapolis Bike Club cue sheet), or Northern High School (Oxon Hill leading ride).

The Ghost Bike installation will take place on Tobacco Road at approximately 11:45 AM. After a brief ceremony, the Memorial Ride will return to Beach Elementary School.

Thanks to Larry Black of Mt. Airty Bicycles for preparing and donating a ghost tandem.

To honor their memories, John's sister has set up the John Fauerby and Lynne Rosenbusch Memorial Advocacy Fund to support Bike Maryland's work in and out of Annapolis.
