RideWithGPS - WTF ??

RideWithGPS - WTF ??

I was looking at Apple Fritter rides on RideWithGPS, and I found two apparently identical rides, with very different elevation gains and maximum grade %.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26272800

The first one says 1,289 ft of climbing, with max 8.1%
The second one says 982 ft of climbing, with max 3.9%.

There's a huge difference between 8.1% and 3.9%. WTF?

Mary,  I copied the route into our club account and "refetched" the elevation data.  I would go with this version.  John McCauley

The ride (26269318) quoted was actually recorded by a rider and uploaded to rwgps.  Rwgps does not reveal the recording device so we don't know if barometric altitude or what weather changes may have occurred that day.  A stop for fritters with a concurrent weather change can have a major effect on altitude.  Note there are also many possible errors using elevation databases so often a barometric altimeter is considered superior.
