Heavy Fog
Heavy Fog
Perhaps the foggiest conditions I've ever cycled through. Left from home (21286), then cycled through the Loch Raven watershed up to Sweet Air Road. The roads through Loch Raven weren't that bad - perhaps the woods kept the fog at bay. The fog hanging over the reservoir cast an eerie kind of beauty that I'm glad I got to see. Something out of an old horror flick. Anyway, once I got onto Dulaney Valley Road, visibility was dangerously poor. I suppose my blinking red taillight helped because the cars went around me. But seeing cars in front was problematic: I could barely see them and I'm sure they could barely see me. My concerns about pace and distance took a backseat to focusing on returning home in one piece. Obviously I did or you wouldn't be reading this; you'd be reading something else. Total distance was 26 miles, though the ride seemed much longer, given the need to keep braking while descending Dulaney Valley and surrendering the road a few times to wide-bodied vehicles. There but for the grace, right? Don't try this at home. And thanks for reading.
