As of today, Aug. 25, the steel plate is still there on Falls Road, on the curve just after the Butler Fire House, as you are going North.  The bridge deck at Glencoe and Lower Glencoe is still in the process of being re-surfaced, and the bridge is closed.

I think your bike computer is in need of re-calibrating.  I test rode the ride recently with Ed Hopkins and we were right on the cue sheet, for a total of 64.5 miles.  That included stopping at Sheetz.  If you got 65.7 and you didn't stop at Sheetz you either made a wrong turn somewhere or your computer is recording too many miles.

This morning Cold Bottom road was milled starting at Yeoho and heading East.  It was NOT milled at the bottom of Cedar Grove.

Also, Piney Grove was still being paved about 200 yards from Butler Road.  I would guess it was finished this afternoon.  The resurfacing of the entire length of Piney Grove should now be complete.  As of Sunday it was paved from Old Hanover Road to just before Longnecker Road.  It is REALLY NICE!

This morning, Saturday June 5, Judy and I were riding to Rocks State Park and were on Madonna Road when we were stopped by a uniformed man in a DNR vehicle.  He told us that a black bear had been seen just behind several houses to our right.  A little further down the road about a dozen neighbors were out along the road, and two police cars had the traffic stopped.  We were able to ride through, and never saw the bear.  Just think about all the stuff you would miss if you didn't ride your bike!!  I can bearly imagine!

Alice Chalmers (she and husband, Bruce cycle with the BBC) is co-founder of NORTH COUNTY PRESERVATION, a non-profit trying to keep northern Baltimore County rural.  You can learn more about it by Googling the organization's name.  Alice could use some help in putting together a cycling event that will start at Monkton Methodist Church on Monkton Road, very near Monkton Station and the NCR Trail.  The purpose of the event is to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining the rural aspects of the area, Many of our rides go on the very roads where her event will be held.  She could use help creating a route for casual riders and one for more advanced riders; and in generally planning the event.  A third route will go on the NCR Trail, and will be for families. Some years ago, and for several years, a large number of BBC'ers helped a similar group, The Rural Legacy, put on a cycling event starting on Dover Road. We did that with great success.  Could we do it again?  We could...if folks volunteer.  Do a little or do a lot, every bit will help.  Call Alice at 410-472-0099.  Time is of the essence since the event is planned for June 12th.
