Great company on a Spring day

Forum: Ride Reports

Little did I expect that 12 riders would show for my ride today. The pace up the Rogers Ave. ascent and Rt. 99 was fast from the start. I was gashing for air and in the red zone  until a few others and me dropped off to a doable pace as the fast guys pulled away near the Mount View MS. Even so we slower riders averaged 18 mph out to Mt. Airy. The hills of Flag Marsh and Watersville Roads slowed us down even more - brings back bittersweet memories of my Category 4 racing 20 years ago on these same roads. Once this small group arrived at the Woodbine Highs we met up again with the faster guys. I was determined to ride with these guys and stuck with them on Tridelphia Road up to Frederick Road. Dropped again I soloed onto the traffic-bound roads of Ellicott City. It was there that I was almost t-boned twice on Frederick Road, the first by an ignorant, cigarette smoking van driver at the ballfield near Rt. 40 and again by an oblivious, 20 something woman making a left turn as I was heading down the hill at St. John's Lane. Heading up the Ellicott Mills-Rogers Ave hill all was well as pulled into the safety of the ride start. Thanks to all who shown today, including Terry Harrigan, Phil Feldmen, David Kelling, Chris Sarioglou,Travis Warren, Larry Schofield, electric bike riders, Gene Bayer and Chris Hurst, and tri-Trish Cummings. Last but not least Paul Hess- a former Chesapeake Wheelmen racer friend and Ross Chason, a rider who I haven't ridden with since Covid. Being older I'm fully-vaccinated as are Terry and Ross. It won't be long before all of us will be vaccinated and riding together. Thanks for the great company! Mike

Saw Many Riders on the Glyndon BBC Ride that I led today
Category: Social
Forum: Ride Reports

Thanks for leading a ride Jeffery. I too would like to see more rides on the schedule as Gloria, Eugene and myself had been leading lots of weekday rides. I’m coordinating the 16 mph group and would like to see more members of that group to step up to the plate and lead rides. My goal is to lead 1 ride a week with increasingly more difficult and longer rides in the 16 mph group as the weather gets warmer.  I’ve seen newer and younger riders show up at my rides. And I’m fully Covid vaccinated having gotten my J&J shot 2 weeks ago.

Please note that as of 6:20 this new ride's GPS file has been updated. Please refer to the latest EFS-Sykesville ride in the calendar for the latest GPS and cuesheet link.
