My wife and I bought a new tandem this week. Does anyone have a tandem-specific rack for sell? Please contact me off-line.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mary,
I'd like to ride with the volunteers on Sunday. What time and is it at the CWC start location?
Thanks,
Mike

Does anyone have one in good to excellent condition? 8 or 9 speed cranksets won't do.
Training for the Tour de Montes.

On this sub-25 degree day 5 riders headed out from Sam's Bagel in Catonsville for a brand-new ride of the area. Once I got a concensus from the group we decided to skip going thru the dubious, icy? paths of the Patapsco park and shorten the ride by 8 miles by heading straight towards Hanover on Rolling Rd. I noticed that we weren't the only weirdos out there when we passed by dozens of MTB riders heading into the gnarlly wooded area of the Patapso woods at the P&R enterance. Our route into Hanover took us up our 1st climb at Ridge Rd. and than a steady uphill grade on Race Rd. and Forest Dr. Heading back to Ellicott City we ascented Lawyers Hill at Phil Feldmans' steady but brisk pace - he was riding his new 18 lb., carbon fiber recumbent bike with "you had to see it to believe it", a plexiglass front fairing. Thanks to Phil, Steve Z, Roger K and Jack for keeping me company on this cold winter blast.

Tomorrow's ride is still on. Bundle up. Burr...

Forum: Ride Reports

Nine riders showed up at Sam's Bagels on Saturday to accompany me on this inaugural century- Phil, on his Flying Dishwasher, Erica G., Tiffany, David Whitaker, Alan, George McNabb, and a new rider, Thorton. A few had problems finding Sam's as it's in the rear or a shopping center. Another option for the ride start would be the P&R at Rt.166 and Rt.195, thought I can't stand riding any bit of Rolling Rd.
Along the way Komrade Karl met us near Ellicott City and later in Eldersburg we were honored to have Terry Harrigan make a strong debut. I believe this was to be his 1st ride since his harrowing June bike accident. Though he was experiencing thumb numbness and rib pain, Terry was riding like his old racing days. He and Phil who riding better than ever set a vicious pace as we swung into Hampstead. We dropped David and Erica along the way yet I phoned Erica who told me she wasn't feeling well and had decided to turn around.
On the return leg we rode familiar roads in Hunt Valley where I reminded Terry about going slow through the S-turns on Pleasant Grove Rd (Terry can't crash since he's on blood thinner) and because I selfishly wanted the pace to come down.
Terry swung off at Marriottsville Rd to finish his metric century back to Eldersburg. So that left 4 of us, Karl, George and myself with Phil tangling a 1/4 mile off the front. I don't remember how we caught him but we climbed Driver Rd with Phil. He then dropped us unceremoniously on the flat part of this road. I worried about Alan and Thorton but later learned that they had had an issue with a stray dog which slowed them down.
George, Karl and I climbed College Ave with Phil steadily pulling away from us on this steep ascent. I was really glad to get back home to Catonsville and so was Karl to be back in Ellicott City as he was experiencing leg cramps.
In hindsight I'd reclassify as a hilly ride as we climbed 7487' of elevation gain. Thanks to all who made this a great century.
Mike

I understand that the pavement between the roundabout on Rogers Ave and Rt. 29 is being grooved. I'll be looking into this after work today to see if it'll warrant a detour. If so my cuesheet has this detour listed.
