The weather looks good, so the ride is ON!  See you at 9:30 AM
at Alpha Ridge Park!

Bill Gary

There's an increasing threat of rain starting early afternoon tomorrow, the 21st.
If it's raining in the morning, I'll cancel the ride (I'll post a decision on go/no go
here on the forum by 7:30 AM).  If it looks like we might have 2 or 3 dry riding hours,
we can do the regular GR&R loop out to Old Frederick (about 27 miles), then turn left and head back to the ride start for a total of 35 (or so) miles. OR, if it looks like we'll still have more riding time, we can turn RIGHT on Old Frederick and go down to that turn-about just outside of Mt Airy, then turn around and ride on Old Frederick back to Alpha Ridge Park.  The cueue sheet will have a map on the back for riders who aren't familiar with the area.

Are they still working on this intersection?
Forum: Road Problems

...was considering this area in HC for some riding this weekend, then I remembered
that Shady Lane near Burnt Woods was closed the last time I rode thru that area.

It was easy enough to walk over the construction site (or to ride around it) but I
was curious if it's still closed.

possible route change to the final 30 mile loop of the GRR century
Category: Social

Thanks for the input Ed..
How about if we took Sand Hill south to 144, then EAST on 144 to Tridelphia,
lEFT (south) on Tridelphia to Sharp/Shady Lane/Hobbs??  Is Tridelphia rideable
down there?? OR..Tridelphia to Rosemary Lane RIGHT to 32 then LEFT to Burnt Woods??

Thanks again,

possible route change to the final 30 mile loop of the GRR century
Category: Social

Howard County folks..
I'm tying to update the final 30 mile loop of the 'Gary, Rick and Ron' century
route. Currently, we go west on 99 from Alpha Ridge Park, left (south) on 32 and
then west on 144 for 2.5 miles till we go left on McKendree.  I'm not crazy about
those 2 miles on 144 (traffic, narrow or non-existent shoulder) OR having to turn
left across 144 on McKendree.
Any routing ideas?? I'd like to keep the route south of 144 and moving east so that
our final rest stop is at Woodbine and Old Frederick...and, of course, it has to
end up being close to 30 miles!
I'm not planning on leading the GRR century till May or June, so we have lots of
time...let me know if you have any ideas.

Prelim planning for a Tucson cycling trip!
Category: Social

Hey, BBC'ers, BBC racers and anybody else....

Can it be time already to consider some early season
2012 miles in a warm, (hopefully) dry environment????

I'm thinking about the first or second week in March
for our semi-annual bike outing to Tucson AZ....
I started this annual trek to the sunshine several years
ago when I tagged along with the BBC racing folks, who
used to do this as their early season training camp. As
I've said here many's great training AND
a great way to eliminate a week of winter from your life.

Southwest now flies direct from BWI to Tucson (fares are pretty
low right now) and the La Quita Hotel at the airport has rooms
available...but of course, there are many reasonably priced
hotels in the area.

Here's a link to SOME of the routes in the area..I think I've
done most of them! … ;Itemid=89

Anybody interested??

I'm selling my classic Calfee Luna's a 58 cm (C to T)
carbon fiber road frame made with Craig Calfee's own carbon tubes
and gusseted lugs (you know, those wing looking things that make a
Calfee frame so distinctive looking).

The TT is 57 cm C to C, chainstays are 41.5 cm, wheelbase is 99.4 cm,
head tube angle is 74 degrees, seat tube angle is 73 degrees.
I'm including a Reynolds carbon fiber fork, headset, carbon seat post
and front derailleur clamp. It's been VERY WELL taken cared
was my baby bike, so it has never seen rough graveled roads, and, in
its' lifetime, it has probably seen rain twice (maybe 3 times).

Please contact me here (on list) or off-list at for more
information or to arrange a place to meet (I live in Baltimore). me find a good and deserving home for my Calfee baby!!

$300.00 OBO
