Strasburg Ride. New roads for most of you! Lancaster type ride. Will see Amish, buggies and manure! Lunch outside in the back of a neat cafe. This ride is well worth the hour drive. Past riders have all agreed. Terrain varies greatly! It has flat stretches, rolling terrain, farmlands, arid hills, forests, mountains (not really-a few big hills) and streams & brooks & just about everything. A great ride...guaranteed or your money back!

This is NOT a trail ride. ALL ROADS! Hilly ride (not crazy hilly)
One 1.5 mile 9% climb.
Lunch at mile 36 at Italian Restaurant or other "fast" places. Only 23.5 miles after lunch. We usually do this ride in April or November so it should be much easier in July unless the heat gets to us! Ice cream place after the ride (& or bike shop)!

Date: Saturday, July 25
Start: Harper's Choice Village Center (HCV)
Distance: 63 miles
Leader: Stuart Lamb 410-884-9154
Mont Ventoux Watch Party after Ride!  HoCo 'Metric':  Food/drink stops at mile 28 and 50 plus can add one at 35.5 just continue to corner of McKendree/RT-97 then return to Hobbs.  Nice local ride with maximum climbing in the area.  You will feel like you rode 100 miles, not K's!  HVC is one mile into Columbia from the RT-108 & Homewood/Harper's Farm Road intersection.  Meet at the rear of the Village Center near the sports park.  There is an excellent casual restaurant called Maiwand Kabob in the shopping center for lunch as well as a McDonalds and Safeway with Starbucks for before ride Joe and restrooms.  Mont Ventoux will be re-played after ride at 2pm, 1 mile away at 5435 Wooded Way, Columbia.  BYO-everything (booze, food, whatever).  Can drop off food/drink with Jan before ride for fridge or cooler.  Grilling on deck but very casual group watch party on DVR on 57' HDTV of the penultimate and Tour deciding stage.  Come watch the showdown but very informal so bring a change
of clothes.  If you can't ride, c'mon over anyway at 2pm when both rides get back.  Friday phone 410-707-0659.  Day of ride phone is 443-878-4847.

Assault on Antietam II!
Tired of the same roads? A great lunch stop! Lunch at Shepherdstown, WV-Location of a few colleges. Neat hangouts on Main Street-Killer Bakery & a great coffee shop. Also, a few neat Cafes. Will visit a few Antietam Sites. Can even watch a 20 minute film about the Civil War battle at the main site. Ride goes through a few battlefields. The ride is moderately hilly. A bunch of easy sections with a tough climb here & there! Worth the hour drive from Columbia (it will take me an hour and a half from Timonium-well worth it-last led on 5/31/04-I believe we can take the drive every 5 years? Whatcha think? Worth leading?).

Have you checked with adventurecycling.org? They are probably one of the best sources for information about these sorts of tours. They have maps specifically for cyclists, which will be better than what Google comes up with (for a few years, at least). They also have forums for finding people who want to group up for guideded and self-guided tours.

Is this an almost never, or sometimes, or I'm wonderful?

Forum: Riding Style

I've stopped to clear debris a few times - usually when it's something like a large branch that extends into the roadway. I remember one ride where the entire lead group stopped to muscle a fallen tree out of the way. I think that the unwritten rules is that if an obstacle presents an unavoidable risk to following cyclists, then something is done.

I also find that I, and many others, stop to get turtles and other slow-moving critters off the roads. Sometimes the group will wait, sometimes not, but someone nearly always asks to see if they should.

Although chilly enough in the morning to make me wonder whether 69 miles was a good idea, the ride turned out to be quite comfortable as the day warmed up. With any luck, it will be the last time this season that we need to stand in the sun to feel warm at lunch!

And Ed - I'll definitely move the ride start before the next time. Rt 27 has become too busy.

Phil

Hi folks,

This is a reminder to add an 18 (or 15/17/18) ride to the schedule for the May June schedule. So far we have:

Saturday, May 08, 2010
Saturday, May 15, 2010
Sunday, May 16, 2010
Saturday, June 05, 2010
Sunday, June 06, 2010
Saturday, June 19, 2010
Sunday, June 20, 2010[/ol]

There are a lot of spaces still open folks, so let's see what we can fill in!

Thanks,

Phil Feldman

Fate of cuesheet central?

Coming to the meeting depends on where it is. I work in Laurel, so getting to the top of the beltway in rush hour could be dicey. When and where is the meeting?

This is a poll on how to display old rides
Category: Social

And the reason for the 3 foot list is because I can search it quickly. Also it's just text so load times are minimal.
