2014 Flatlands Tour

2014 Flatlands Tour

Just wanted to say to Ken (and Cindy) what a great ride this was - and to give a big thank you for all the effort you put in to make it come together!

AND Becky. I second that emotion!

(I especially appreciated NOT leaving the ride in an ambulance this year.)

Re: 2014 Flatlands Tour

Just wanted to add my "Thanks!" to the others. It was a great day on the bike.

Thanks also to Janet G and Russ L for once again organizing "The J Train". And especially floating the idea of backing off the pace a bit, since it seems that so many people are feeling a bit behind in their mileage and fitness this year.

In fact, our group of 12 or more riders stuck together well through the entire ride which helped us all finish at a 19.5mph pace-- a bit faster than the goal of 18mph= comfortable pace we were aiming for. With a little more "intent", I'm sure we could have been at 20mph since no one seemed to be at their limits during the ride.

Everyone contributed a good number of strong pulls throughout the day. I hope that first-timers Steven and Kathleen and others will be encouraged to join us again.

As 100 milers go, this one flew by easier than I can remember any other going.
Good weather, good scenery, and a good group certainly helped.

Best,
Robert

I liked 100-in-reverse route. Taking on the Augustine Beach slog early was good if for no other reason than only a few of the flies had woken up (only one bite this year!).

Sure would be nice if there were someplace in Millington (last stop on the century)  where they let you use the bathroom....

Actually, I believe there was one rider who did manage to get to go, and he did not seem to have any problem as far as I know.

I had a great time myself; paceline was well-behaved (well, except for...agh, nevermind...) and very consistent.  I also liked the backward course direction.

Finally, I also wanted to do some chest-thumping here and post our extraordinary pace of 52410 furlongs per fortnight with over 48768 cm of climbing!!

Nice day, good group, fine weather.  Thanks to the organizers.

Re: 2014 Flatlands Tour

I used the "employees only" bathroom at the store in Millington, too, but it made me nervous. Planned rest stops need to have public restrooms or an alternative if at all possible; this goes for club rides, too.
