24 Hour Booty Ride
24 Hour Booty Ride
Five BBC members formed a team and road for this charity event this past weekend. The event was held from 1 PM Saturday to 1 PM Sunday at Gateway Park (near Rt 175 & Rt 95) to gather funds for National and local Cancer charity non-profits. Jeff Adler was captain of the team which included Maxine Mead, our newsletter editor, Nigel Samaroo, Chris Bradshaw and myself (Terry Harrigan). It was a challenge for all participants with Jeff riding over 200 miles, Nigel setting a personal record of 114 miles, Chris riding an estimated 150 miles (had not heard an official number from him). I myself only road 3 hours on Saturday and 2 on Sunday but none-the-less it was a challenge for me since I've not been outdoors on the bike since my Father's day incident. Together we raised $3185 for this Cancer charity with some matching donations yet to be tallied.
I thought the event was well run. Food was supplied for participants over the 24 hour period and volunteers scattered the area and were always there to cheer riders on. Guessing about 400 riders participated in this growing event. Personally, I found going around the loop not as boring as one might think but then after 2 months off the bike, I'd be happy riding up and down my driveway <g>.
I expect Maxine will be putting together a newsletter article about the event in its next release.
If anyone wants to contribute you can still do so here.

Re: 24 Hour Booty Ride
I stopped by the route on Sunday morning to give some support to the riders. Maxine had covered over 130 miles by 9AM, so I suspect she must've covered at least 150 by days end. Max?
Thanks to the whole team for your good deeds. Good work. -Bob

Re: 24 Hour Booty Ride
I know that we all had a great time and couldnt ask for better weather. Chris, Jeff and I all rode personal bests in terms of mileage in a 24-hour period. We left on Sunday exhausted but happy to have been part of the event. Maxine was a trooper, chugging along turning over the miles, and yes there was Terry blasting by us (Chris, Jeff, Maxine and I) doing about 20 mph. Jeff and I did manage to hang on his wheel for a couple of laps before resorting to a more reasonable for us pace. The event was very well coordinated, the food was plentiful and the Midnight Pizza party was great. Jeff and I did some damage to the pizza that night. We did see some additional Baltimore Bike Club jerseys out there..not sure who they were though!
I recall a bio break at around 315am and there were several cyclists still out there, one guy said he was at 196 miles and was getting ready to get back out there, "..uncharted territory for me, we will see how it goes" he said as he got back on his bike for more miles/laps.
All together a great time was had by all... look forward to the event next year! Perhaps more of the club members will join in the effort next year so we can really have a nice BBC turnout/representation.
Enjoy the rest of the year, be safe out there and see you all at some point on a ride!!

Heard today that Chris did 162 miles. And chatted with Phil a bit. Sounds like he's interested in giving it a go next year. Sorry about missing Max's mileage. I had known but at 5 AM in the morning (before coffee) not all cylinders are working.

Sure, I'd love to, but it always seems to conflict with one of my favorite out-of-bounds rides (the Shore Fire Century).

Re: 24 Hour Booty Ride
I'll echo what everyone else on the team has said -- the 24 Hours of Booty ride was a great challenge and a fun experience! It was very nice to meet and ride with (well, be endlessly passed by ) Terry, Nigel, Chris, and Jeff. (Although I am quite happy with my 150 miles, I am *very* proud of the fact that I managed to hang onto their wheels for most of the first lap, saying "See ya!" shortly after we hit the hill. Now that I think about it, that effort probably sucked 10 miles out of my total. Thanks for nothing, guys!
