Fate of cuesheet central?
Re: Fate of cuesheet central?
Hi Phil
I was writing my email as you were writing yours. The Board will be making the future of CSC an agenda item. Will is going to be asked to attend the meeting on March 11. I personally think that there are too many features of CSC that work very well to shut it down. As I said in my previous post, using CSC as 2nd Portal to the ride schedule, seems like a good idea for this transition phase an dhopefully some of its' best features could be incorporated into the new ride schedule. Perhaps you could talk with Will or even come to the March 11 Board meeting to brainstorm some ideas.

BBCTalk will be replace by the forums. If you subscribe to a forum(s) , you can receive an email on your iPod or smartphone. My guess is that until the club shuts down BBCTalk, a lot of members will not make the switch to the forums.

Shut down the old forum: yes.
Delete the old forum: no.
Let's get all the technical stuff straight. You can "shut down" the old yahoo, BBC forum in the sense that no more posts can be made to it without DELETING it.
What should be done--and it can be done today--is that new posts should be blocked and users should be redirected to the new BBC forum. The new web site can point to the merely historical old BBC forum. (Janet certainly knows how to turn off the old forum--just turning the "posting option" to "off" and it is done.)
I have an unused yahoo forum out there that just stays and stays. I think it will stay there until I delete it. Let's do that with the BBC Yahoo form.

Re: Fate of cuesheet central?
Coming to the meeting depends on where it is. I work in Laurel, so getting to the top of the beltway in rush hour could be dicey. When and where is the meeting?

Re: Fate of cuesheet central?
Two things greatly missed on cuesheetcentral and missing from the website:
1. Proper search functions (Name, ride leader, location, ...)
The ride class filter just isn't adequate.
2. Selection of a cuesheet for a ride to lead opens a lead this ride dialogue.
Rides and cuesheets need to have tighter integration.

Re: Fate of cuesheet central?
Ed (Hopkins), I speak for the board in saying that the board is thrilled to read that you (and with Bob Wagner's assistance) are volunteering to update the BBC website's Cue Library. John Busteed and Will have already transferred 100 of cue sheet central's 200 rides. Surely Phil and Ed Cahill will continue to offer you thoughts as you update the new website's library.
Between you, Bob, Ed, Phil, Will, and John, I may have to buy two six-packs. Thank you guys.

Re: Fate of cuesheet central?
I'm lazy. (when I can be)
Can someone explain to me what's wrong with doing nothing?
Why are we putting extra effort into deleting a club archive?
If someone wants to move it to the new site. Fine.
If someone wants to improve the interface and searches. Fine.
Just don't delete it.

Is this an official request from the Board?

Janet: It is NOT an official request from the board. It is just me saying what could be done. (I personally think that the only way to move people to the new forum is to do so by force. Disallow posting in the old forum, give them a message that they should sign up on the new forum, and have done with it. Probably wait a week or two to allow for voluntary movement from one forum to the other but then cut off submitting.)

So, I guess the handy-dandy cell phone lookup for cuesheet central goes away, too. Pity.
I really liked the mobile cuesheetcentral page too, so I put together one that parses the new BBC calendar iCal so I can see it from my phone, check out http://witronics.com/bbc/
This is not official in any way
