New York State bike tour July 24-30, 2016

FANY is a great ride.  Nice scenery.  Easy & challenging terrain.  Many alumni riders.  Tour operators care about cyclists.  Took extra measures when storm came in.  Indoor camping.  Be sure to stop to see sights along the way.  No rush to get to the day's end destination.

Whether 20 minutes or more, what incriminating things were being removed from Heather Cooks' car during that time?

I am unspeakably saddened of Tom's death.

President Ed,   Excellent letter.   The "club" has a responsibility to be publicly observed representatives.  Having not been there, the best response was to respond diplomatically. We all know not every cyclist is always an angel.  The hardest thing we do is communicating and extending an olive branch is far more mature than bullying, being confrontational or accusative.  Many folks will read and agree with this, but will never respond.  The confrontationists will be quick to put fingers to the keyboard, when what is required is time to grow.  We all have much to learn in regard to communicating and advancing a world of peacefulness.  The second letter was insulting. Pity. The first letter was so good.  Thank you for all you do as our BBC President.  Past President, Georgia

Your ideas for next year's dinner/program?
Category: Social

I received both positive & negative feedback on the Celebration night.  I was told that many people think it is boring and many members do not attend because of the boredom.   I was told to move through the awards, way faster than I had wished to and could not acknowledge events, duties, & volunteers as much as I had preferred.   That's okay with me.  It is your club.  I'm planning next year I will change the format of the Awards.   Format for door prizes is probably traditional BBC, in that it advertises the bike shops.   What do you think?  What do you want the agenda to be for the 2012 End of Season Celebration?   Speak up.  This is your club.

Hey Folks,    The gal who sent the email stated that she is doing research.  I hear that as our tax dollars at work.  I hope you will either pick up a telephone and call her, or email her, with your comments.   Otherwise, you may be getting a combined bus & Bike lane.

Dear Baltimore Bicycling Club,
The Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) is working on the development of a guide to design, policies, and operational characteristics for shared bicycle/bus lanes.  For this guide a shared bicycle/bus lane is defined as a lane that is dedicated for bicycle travel and bus transit use where bicycles and buses share the lane space together.  These lanes may also include permitted use by other high-occupancy vehicles, right turning vehicles, taxis, and/or vehicles during off-peak periods.

Initial research identified an example of this lane configuration in your area located on a portion of W Lombard and Pratt Streets.  We are requesting that you, or a member of your organization who is familiar with this street, complete a brief questionnaire on how the shared lane functions.

The questionnaire can be completed in one of two ways: 1. Email to "Fiebe, JoAnne" <joannefiebe@cutr.usf.edu>  for a word document and return via email or 2. We can contact you at a convenient time to conduct a brief phone interview.  The final guide that incorporates the results of this survey will be shared with all participants.

We are also looking for photographs of the shared lane and greatly appreciate any photos that you can provide to be included in the report.  Please contact me with any questions <joannefiebe@cutr.usf.edu>.  Thank you so much for your valuable time,

JoAnne K Fiebe, B.Arch, LEED AP

Fine bicycling and culinary weekend
Category: Social
Forum: Ride Reports

To Rich Burns,
Thanks for orchestrating such a fine bicycling and culinary weekend in Washington County , MD.    I include culinary because of the delicious array of food that we enjoyed at Ed & Mary’s, the Dixie Tavern, and the Bulls and Bears.   It’s amazing how Washington County, a destination not so far from home, can be such a special, memorable getaway.
My wife and I enjoyed the camaraderie and spirit that typify BBC events – that upbeat attitude and friendliness that helps us feel like part of the group and insures a fun time.
I’m sure everyone appreciates your continuing oversight of this event (10+ years) and those who also worked very hard to make it special (Ed & Mary, Walt, and others of whom I may not be aware).
We will remember the rides with the panoramic views and historical surroundings, but moreover we will remember the good times: meeting and talking with others on the rides and enjoying the party-like atmosphere at the group gatherings.
We look forward to next year’s event.
Great job!
Lanny & Linda Evans
