Our worst nightmare.

Forum: Ride Reports

Distracted driving is a huge problem. As a rule, I believe that narrow, twisting roads are more safe to ride on these days. The driver of the car has to pay attention to stay on the road. Wide, straight roads with good sightlines let drivers pay less attention to what's going on outside of the vehicle

Well, technically, it's a motorcycle...

What was your mileage for year?

If I did my math right, it was 8420 this year. Most interesting ride: Going over Blewet (sp?) pass in western Washington while a huge forest fire was coming over the other way.

To beat the heat, I've shortened the ride and started it earlier. Instead of starting at 8:30, we'll start at 7:00, and the ride is 73 miles rather than 90. Note the new ride start! Tech Ct. in Westminster (

The new cue sheet is at: … amp;id=384

For those of you with GPS, additional formats are at:

Even with the adjustments, this is going to be a hot, hot ride at the end. If you have doubts about your ability to ride in the sun with the temps in triple digits, you might want to wait until next year...

I'm thinking Stuart may be a bit distracted by the Tour de France (TdF). He's actually referring to the BBC's Tour de Montes (TdM). But I like the idea of Janet handing out ice, water, and Gummi Bears to the pro peleton at the top of all the big climbs in Le Tour.

Well, this run of fantastic weekend weather had to break sooner or later :-b

Ice at the top of the climbs helps a lot, and we will have coolers just for that. It has been hotter in the past, and we all seem to make it. It does make the air conditioning in the lobby seem that much sweeter...

A couple of ex-Google guys came up with a real-time wind map:

Oooo. Shiny....

Mt. Airy to Poolsville: Hilly to rolling ride on scenic, low-traffic roads in Frederick and Montgomery Co's. We'll start from the shopping center this time to avoid the Rt. 27 traffic.
