50th Anniversary Celebration Re-Cap and Thanks!
Our 50th Anniversary Ride and Celebration held on June 2nd was a big success and attended by many!
Boy oh boy, were we lucky with the weather?! Just as WBAL had forecasted, rain didn’t come until later in the afternoon. It was heart-warming to see so many riders show up on such an iffy-weather day and to see so many sporting old club jerseys. We counted over 110 riders!
BBC Booth at Towsontown Spring Festival
Many thanks to our team of BBC members who volunteered to spend part of their weekend at the BBC booth at the Towsontown Spring Festival on May 5 and 6. Their objective was to publicize our club's activities to the 200,000 visitors at this annual event. We hope to have new members who will join our club as a result of the efforts of: Jayme Abrams, Nikki Austin, Bob Carson, John Eckard, Marge Ewertz, Steve Feldman, Gary Flax, Esther Frey, Eric Frey, Jeff Huesman, Amy Hurtoom, Howie Kline, Kim Kodenski, Jim Mayhew, Mary Ellen Mclewee, Rick Todd, Bill Wiesand, and Gene Young.
BBC Small Grants Program will begin accepting applications beginning Jan. 1, 2018.
Effective April 24, 2018, there is a new ‘Port-o-Pot’ taking up residence at the Western Run Park-and-Ride on Shawan Rd. courtesy of the BBC and two gracious gentlemen at the MD State Highway Department who kindly striped an area for its own dedicated parking spot.
This new development will be a comfort to local cyclists and will no doubt provide much needed ‘relief’, both to the pine grove across the street and to the puzzled stare of the golfers on the on the Par 4 15th fairway.
Cycling on the Eastern Shore: Kent County Spring Fling (KCSF) Celebrates 35 years
It is a classic. It is a gem. The KCSF celebrated its 35th year with outstanding cycling, socializing, and much more. Centered at Washington College, in historic Chestertown, MD, this event was a thoroughly fun weekend. Rides from 11-109 miles may have spread cyclists out, but all were united in the joys of pedaling in this scenic region—where osprey soar overhead, sea craft nestle along the Chester River, and bathers enjoy the picturesque beach in Betterton.
A little event history: In 1983, Judy Getz, Charles Tully, and Jim Gent had the idea to organize a bike weekend on the Eastern Shore–and the Spring Fling was born. The time was always Memorial day, to coincide with Chestertown’s Tea Party Festival—a glorious event with living history, music, vendors, and much more. KCSF has evolved through the decades and has drawn thousands of cyclists to this area of natural beauty and to the historic town of Chestertown.
