BBC Awards Dinner and Annual Meeting
Cancelled due to Covid
Unfortunately, due to changing Covid-19 conditions and restrictions imposed by Baltimore County on the functioning of the Oregon Ridge Lodge, we are not able to use Oregon Ridge Lodge as the venue for an indoor dinner which is part of our Awards Dinner and Annual Meeting.
With widespread access to Covid-19 vaccinations, along with a sharp decline in Covid-19 cases over much of the summer, the BBC Board and our event coordinator had confidence that we could hold this event including an indoor meal.
2021 Civil War Century – A Success!
Approximately 1200 riders enjoyed the hospitality of our club’s signature event! COVID forced adjustments to ensure the safety of both the riders and volunteers. Luck was on our side with the weather, but the real secret sauce is our fabulous volunteers that make it all work so well – THANK YOU and we hope that you can part of the recipe in 2022!
Civil War Century is just 30 days away!
Hear how Becky and Jim Matsakis did it last year on their own, after the Club had to cancel the 2020 event.
Becky said that doing the Civil War Century (CWC) had been at the back of their minds since they first heard about it in 2015. They had just started cycling again with the BBC after a 23-year hiatus. Volunteering for the event at the Mt. Aetna rest stop, they learned more details specifically about the 100-mile route. The last century they rode was the BBC’s Hunt Valley Hundred in 1990. And that, Jim would admit, was a few years ago!
The BBC Summer Picnic Was A Huge Success
After a COVID year off, the BBC summer picnic returned to Taneytown Memorial Park. It was wonderful to see everyone in person. Thanks to Bill Blankenship for all his hard work pulling this together.
Earth Day 2021 Celebration Ride
Mary and Barry Menne led an Earth Day Celebration ride on 4/20/21. Seven of the ten participants were able to arrive at the MD Line P&R an hour early to remove litter. Pictured above are Carol & Walt Russell, Barry & Mary, Gene Young, Becky & Jim Matsakis. We collected 8 large bags of trash, a pillow and a chair. After the ride Walt and Barry loaded the trash into the Russell's vehicle and drove it to the Maryland Line Volunteer Fire Station where we had permission for disposal in their dumpster.
Please keep Mother Earth in your thoughts and actions!
