129 mile (just over 200K) ride to Gettysburg and back, starting at the Park & Ride in Lisbon (just off Rt 70 in western Howard County). I've been wanting to do some longer rides this year, so I cribbed this route from the DC Randonneurs RWGPS library, which notes 7300 feet of elevation for the route.

Two short, packed gravel sections on the route as-is; one for 0.5 mile in Mt. Airy 8 miles in, the second for 0.8 mile between Gettysburg and Taneytown 94 miles in. There appear to be easy detours around both if necessary.

The route goes through Walkersville (23 mi.), Thurmont (36 mi.), and Emmittsburg (47 mi.) on the way up. 26 or so miles looping in/around Gettysburg (61-87 mi.) to see the battlefield sights/historic markers, then Taneytown (101 mi.) and New Windsor (111 mi.) on the way back.

Rest stops in Thurmont, central Gettysburg (70 mi.), and Taneytown.

EARLY start (7:00 am), because I anticipate this to take at least 8 hours with stops. Anticipated average rolling pace will be 16-17 mph. Bring lots of snacks, a comfortable bike, and a taste for adventure!

ehc3rd@gmail.com I checked your route that includes an at grade crossing of Rt 15 on Creamery rd. That is an extremely dangerous crossing! The BBC has many rides in and out of Emmitsburg that avoid that crossing. I would suggest : using the Mt St Mary student underpass; crossing Rt 140 at Bollinger School rd to Harny Rd then to Bullfrog. A third choice is to stay on Four Points to Rt 140 and take it through Emmitsburg. This choice has the most traffic on Rt 140.
I have ridden all of these alternatives in the last ten years; prior to that I did routes that crossed at grade; I stopped after seeing at auto fatality much less a cyclist fatality trying to cross Rt15.
I will be glad to discuss.

poohbah75 Ed. thanks for the comments and guidance! I always appreciate the input of people who have first-hand experience, especially with potentially dangerous road crossings. I'm working on some edits/adjustments to the route, taking your suggestions into account. I'll post a new RWGPS link once I'm done. Thanks again!

poohbah75 Made some more edits/adjustments; now avoids the at-grade crossing of Rt 15 in Emmittsburg. Also tightened up the length, so it's 126 miles (202K) almost exactly.
